ISSUES

LEADING ON THE ISSUES THAT MATTER MOST.

Ken knows it is not enough to simply believe in public service; we must also act on it. Ken approaches our state’s problems with creativity and thoughtfulness,  bounded by the time-tested principles of individual liberty, limited government, and responsible fiscal discipline.

YOUR ALASKAN CONSTITUTION BELIEVES THAT YOU CAN WISELY CHOOSE THE ALLOCATION OF YOUR RIGHTFUL DIVIDEND, AND SO DO I!!!

I fully support the Constitutional PFD – it was wrongfully taken by Former Gov Walker. As stakeholders in Alaska, everyone gets their fair share as it was originally intended. In addition, the dividend to the people of Alaska holds government accountable. Without the dividend, government could be in danger of dismissing the people and running programs for its own desires.

SUPPORTING THE SANCTITY OF LIFE AT ALL POINTS OF DEVELOPMENT

There are those who disregard the existence and sanctity of a living, growing, human being due to inconvenience, regret, or peer pressure.  There are those in Society today who seem to support the extinguishment of innocent babies.  There are others who disregard the investment and support of our elders.  We appear to be loosing our Traditional Values with a  horrible regression of values. I Support legislation that will PROTECT the unborn and support our elders.

TRUE INFRASTRUCTURE FOR ALASKA IS NOT BASED ON EXTRA FUNDS TO HAND OUT BUT RATHER ON CONSTRUCTING TANGIBLE ENHANCEMENT OF RESOURCES.

True infrastructure for Alaska is not based on extra funds to hand out but rather on constructing tangible enhancement of resources like roads, rail, docks, communications, utilities, agriculture, and education for business and industry to thrive and a strong workforce to employ Alaskans.

True infrastructure pro-actively plans for the future and in Alaska thinks creatively and economically to achieve those benefits for all Alaskans.

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO IMPROVE YOURSELF AND MAKE YOUR WORLD A BETTER PLACE?

True leadership is not for the glamour of the one but the accomplishment of the many. Whether in the “limelight” or shadows, a true leader inspires, empowers, and affirms all in the process. Themes of leadership that I embrace are: "You can have brilliant ideas, but if you can't get them across, your ideas won't get you anywhere." A true leader can "Lead, follow, or get out of the way" - Lee Iacoccca. Hopefully I have helped make your world a better place as seen by the following:

  • Finding employment or employing those whose jobs are affected by the Coronavirus

  • President of Birchwood Airport Association

  • Coordinator to rebuild the racquet courts at Lion’s Park for tennis, pickleball, and concerts in the park.

I BELIEVE IN COMMUNITY SUPPORT, NOT ENTITLEMENT OF YOUR BANK ACCOUNT!!!

The Coronavirus had created a huge financial ripple effect to our economy.  We see loss of businesses, inflation, and loss of a workforce.  Legislative budget planning has vulnerability with “paying it forward” and “living beyond realistic means.”  A budget lacking projected business planning into the future is a setup for our children and grandchildren.   I suggest prudent fiscal management with business model project planning for long term infrastructure development, spending caps based on economy, and future security by refunding the C.B.R. savings account.

We have so many resources in Alaska and availability for more manufacturing businesses for those resources. Our focus should be to create more economic prosperity, not dig into the pockets of our fellow Alaskans. As a business owner, I ask myself: what are premise priority expenses to enhance, system changes needed to manage, and leeching programs which deplete. Businesses can’t go to Alaskan residents and demand funds to keep their business functioning at their level of comfort, and neither should the State Government. I support responsible revenue streams which encourage businesses to come to Alaska.  I will fight against legislation that will unnecessarily tax my fellow Alaskans.

“I’m NOT OK with you losing money.”

ALASKAN HEALTHCARE SYSTEM NEEDS HOUSE CLEANING AND AFFORDABILITY…I WILL LEAD THE EFFORTS TO DO SO!!!

Healthcare is challenging for most Alaskans. Cost, availability of providers, expertise, and Best Practices are significant challenges for Alaskans. Being told that you may have a serious diagnosis but told it will take weeks or months to fully determine the problem and treatment is frustrating at the least and could be deadly at the most. Dealing with antiquated medical procedures because “that is what we have to offer” is also frustrating at the least and misleading at the most.

I believe in “Thinking Outside of the Box”to remedy the healthcare challenge. Not only am I willing to Think Outside the Box and have realistic ideas to do so, but I have done so personally. Examples are:

  • 2014, Ken had a much needed hip replacement surgery, which was done in Anchorage at a total cost of $105,000. The process was frustrating with recovery using opiates, which Ken refused to take after 30 days.

  • 2018 he had another hip replacement but in Costa Rica which cost was just over $24,000 (which included airfare, 4 week recovery stay on a beach, food, physical therapy and services to hotel, and opioid free for pain).

  • 2019, Ken was visiting Thailand, which he collaborated with the Thailand director of mental health services, as well as received an extensive physical exam conducted by physicians who were trained in the United States. The full physical took half a day which included full labs including vitamin / mineral levels and a dozen other comprehensive assessment. The cost was a fifth of equitable services in Alaska.

  • 2021-2022, Ken supported all measures to get more healthcare professionals into our state, which included acknowledging inter-state nursing compacts and expediting professional licenses.

Which would you choose? Ken believes good change can happen for Alaska in order to benefit all.

THE PREMISE OF EDUCATION IS PREPARING A STUDENT FOR A SUCCESSFUL CAREER IN A TRADE OR PROFESSION

Like you, I am very passionate about education and the success of our youth. One of my Masters degrees is in education. I once owned a school that served special needs students, and developed a charter school with a Trade emphasis. I believe you know the “bent” of a child by the 3rd grade. Education should be facilitating that “bent” through practical application (hands on) learning with Career and Technical Training (C.T.E.) programs. A student should not have to wait until 18 to start training towards college or a trade career, rather the process should begin at least in middle school and concurrent credit by the Freshman year of high school. As a student attains industry standard certification while in high school they are engaged and practically available for our desperately needing workforce.

  • I believe that our children can and should be reading by the 9th grade with validated and efficacious curriculum. Our children are not “guinea pigs” for ineffective or unproven curriculum and passed on to the next grade.

  • I believe teachers are passionate for their students, whether in public, charter, or private schools. We need to empower our teachers with effective reading and math curriculum that has more hands-on (tactile) learning to inspire our youth. We should brag about those teachers and schools who demonstrate great performance outcomes with students.

  • I believe that our current educational system of poorly prepared youth is a compounding factor to our challenged workforce, homeless, and drug problems. We have too many students lacking purpose and opportunity in life.

I SUPPORT BUSINESS AND SUCCESSFUL ALASKAN ENTERPRISE

Small business & Entrepreneurship is the hallmark of the pursuit of liberty & achieving the American Dream. Government should help pave a clear path of supporting small business owners, mostly by staying out of their way. I support our community’s business owners and will fight to protect them from any bad legislation that would try to unjustly regulate a practices, profession, or trade. As a member of the House Labor and Commerce Committee I have been very intentional for the well being of free enterprise vs. over burdening business.

The Coronavirus and current economic policies have greatly impacted businesses in Alaska.  I have been very engaged with the employment of Alaskans to maintain employability. I support our local business and investors of new manufacturing of products in Alaska.  I support building our infrastructure which enhances and avails opportunity for free enterprise and economy. Businesses and government must re-evaluate how to operate, thinking out of the box, seizing opportunity now, and protecting our local industries and communities…because we are Alaskans and that is what we do best.

MILITARY PRESENCE IN ALASKA IS NOT JUST FOR NATIONAL SECURITY BUT ARE FELLOW ALASKANS

Alaska is the center of the arctic security for the Pacific North West and North America. Our beloved military members and families sacrifice much to serve. Living in Alaska should not be a sacrifice of appreciation and integration by Alaskans. With an attitude of gratitude, I appreciate our military in protecting our values and freedom. I have championed legislation to ease the integration of enrollment in schools, professional licenses or certifications, and recognizing trade experiences upon transition from military to civilian living.
